These acronyms are to describe the panel technology (viewable area). If you think of a hierarchy system, TN would be entry level so good for basic internet browsing and Office/Word use. VA and MVA are a step up on TN. At the top of the tree is IPS, which offers the best viewing angles and colour accuracy. What you gain in panel quality, you lose slightly in response time. If you would like somewhere in between, AMVA will give you a decent response time and a good panel. IPS is the panel of choice for photographers and similar professions.
